乔治因无法控制说谎的冲动，已经在精神病院住了三年半，艾迪则是个同意以社区服务抵免牢狱之灾的职业骗徒，而帮助乔治重新适应社会便是艾迪社区服务的一部份。当有人将乔治误认为失踪的百万富翁时，原本一有机会便要甩掉乔治的艾迪立刻当机立断，决定利用这情况好大捞一笔；刚开始时，一切都进行得很顺利，然而命运之神却似乎另有打算……。An ambitious newspaper reporter (Dick Powell), eager to scoop the competition, wishes he could know the news before it happens.
