该剧根据作家、医师大钟稔彦创作的系列医疗小说改编，讲述了一位在医学界的历史中主刀了约6000例以上的手术、现在在淡路岛的诊所担任面向当地医疗的医生的故事。 器官移植仍视为禁忌的1980年代后半，曾在医疗先进国家美国钻研的外科医生当麻铁彦到地方的民营医院赴任。当麻在“地方应该有和大学医院一样水平的医疗”的信念下，挑战一切困难手术，挽救眼前的患者们生命。但是，日本首次的器官移植手术之前，权力绝对主义和旧习俗惯涂抹加固的医疗体制阻挡了去路。。A pilots pregnant wife is killed by a band of thugs who break into their home.
